Final Week: Report
January 16, 2007
HERE COMES THE BIG PILE OF WORDS
so anyway, this report is for the 3DF presentation to talk about my process of doing this assignment.
Introduction:
We are to do a channel ID for MTV (we can choose but i choose to stick with this), i started having a lot of ideas and then narrowing down into one idea. This one idea is having a musical note revolving around instruments and bringing life to them, idea was simple and common so there is a need to better improve it. Idea changed by having glow effects, lesser musical instruments and then added a beginning because it lacked a beginning then.
Research and getting resources is pretty easy because there is Wikipedia and HowStuffWorks for research, there is also DeviantArt for inspirations and Flashkit for audio.
Problems encountered:
- I was going to use curve and planar for the base of the guitar but had sharp edges when i planar so i decided to create a polygon with many points.
- Drum kit has too much details as seen in picture. I decided to make the drum kit as simple as possible with simple polygons and not much details.
- I realised before 3rd Draft was out, i had no beginning so i first thought of magic wand and that becomes the beginning.
- I am not good in color. I tried complementary and wanted to create maximum contrast with the background and the musical note by using complementary color but the musical note gain too much attention. I stick to using only one color.
- Not able to seperate scenes for animation. This is simply because as you can see the musical note is attached to the motion path to go around all the instruments, if the scene was to be separated and i do not know where the path ends from the first scene , i do not know how to start the path on the second scene and thus the animation would look wierd (maybe the musical note appear slightly above in the second scene) so i decided to do all into one scene. There is not much lag also because i have deleted the objects’ history.
- After effects was not able to play the audio properly. I exported the composition and audio can be heard then. As the audio part is pretty simple, i only put in the background music and a sound effect and i am done. There was not a need to trim or to modify the audio.
- I don’t know what is a moodboard, so i assume it is a better storyboard with explanations.
- I think my animation needs more colors and effects.
But it is too late now.
Final Week: Moodboard
January 16, 2007
Mr Erwin has shown us a moodboard down by dupoint for one of his project. I went to look for the definition of a moodboard and i found that:
Moodboard is a form of visual stimulus material, usually comprising large boards covered with images (often cut from magazines) and designed to represent a mood, atmosphere or feeling. They might be used as enabling materials, to explore respondents’ experience of an activity or brand. They can also be used to represent the ‘feel’ of an intended advertisement, or to explore a number of alternatives (for example bright, sharp and fresh, or slow and sultry). These are part of the repertoire of materials often necessary to research ideas for advertisements which are not yet made, but which will rely on their finished form for their effect.
Although i don’t know what that means, i have included the moodboard in the CD, it is a better version of the storyboard i have drawn and it should explain much better and clearer.
Final Week: Post Processing
January 15, 2007
After i have rendered my animation in tiff sequence, i used Adobe After Effects for the post processs. I used color correction to enhance the color and did some effects in after effects and mix the audio, animation and effects into one composition and exported it in a quicktime movie with the compression as stated in the assignment brief.
Final Week: Research on Audio
January 15, 2007
I thought of mixing sound loops as stated in my previous entries but now i felt that one would be enough because now my animation is using one color and that is green which means it would sound wierd if choose genres like techno, dance or hip hop. What i am seeking is something like a mystical forest where everything is magical and is alive and as seen in some movies, the magic in the mystical forest makes the plant grow fast when there is a person walking through the forest or any other subject. Then i look for one more sound effect which sounds like a gem crash into an object and have sounds of its shattering (sound like a crystal shattering into pieces). I went to flashkit.com and found a loop which finely suit my animation.
This is the link to the sound loop:

The sound effect i coincidentally found it and took it out from a game called Warcraft 3
