Final Week: Lighting and Texturing
January 15, 2007
For lightining:
I used various lights such as area lights, point light and spotlights. There are 3 area lights, top and bottom of the instruments with same intensity. One area light is use to light up the middle of the guitar. The point light is to light up the whole of the drum kit with addition to some more spotlights. This will create a gradient in the instruments (the top is the brightest while the bottom of the instrument is darkest) to also suit the background texture i have made which have a light to dark gradient. I attached a spotlight to the note and turn off it relationship with other models so it only affect the note whereever it goes.
For texturing:
Texturing is pretty easy, as you can see, i have only one camera so i only need to do one side of the model so i just used planar mapping on all the objects. I used photoshop and used patterns brushes to make patterns on the texture and finally import into maya and used it on the objects.
Final Week: Storyboard #1

Research: Color Scheme
January 15, 2007
I am not good in color, i don’t have much training on color theory so i used a tool recommended by Mr Erwin which is call the kuler and started making my own color scheme.
My idea is to relate MTV to life and magic (by the way, i have changed the slogan to “MTV is the magic” because of the magic wand and magic also gives life) when i think of life, i then think of growth, and the most thought of color is green and i only needed green, shades of green should be enough for my animation.
I tried complementary and others, i felt that complementary and shades works and others don’t. Complemetary gives both colors maximum contrast so i had green and purple. The purple is for the musical note for emphasis while the green is for the background and instruments.
When i tried putting purple into my note and green into my instrument, the musical note is outstanding from the rest but gain pretty much attention instead of the instrument so i switched to only shades of green and it worked well.
I played around with the color wheel and got a scheme, the green is not pure green but is dirty yellowish green. A dirty yellowish green would kind of like show growth with combination of sunlight and earth.
Final Week: Final Draft
January 15, 2007
There should be a beginning, middle and end for a story even if it is a short one. What my concept lacks is a beginning, the middle will be the notes revolving around the instruments and the end is when the MTV logo appears. I have thought of a good idea for the beginning and that is to start with a note and a magic wand. The magic wand hits the note, the note gains magical power and starts rotating and moving, then it moves around the instrument while having some particles behind it to show magic effects.
I have modelled a magic wand by refering to this picture:

Here is what i have done for the final draft.
Fourth Week: Process of modelling the keyboard.
January 4, 2007
The keyboard will have as much details as possible. The reference used is shown below:

Everything has been modelled according to what is seen in the picture.
Here are the steps:
- Simple polygon for the keys in the keyboard with bevel applied.
- Keyboard body is also made of simple polygon with extrude faces and bevel.
- Buttons are made from cylinders and other simple polygons with bevel.
- Speaker is made from NURBS
